February 29, 2024: The project team of Numaligarh Jorhat Road Project (NJRP) in Assam accomplished the 4th milestone of 100% physical completion of the 39.72 km Numaligarh Jorhat section of the project on 29 February 2024. This feat has been achieved with precise planning by the project team and coordination from the HO. HCC was awarded an EPC contract from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highway (MoRTH) for four lanes of the Numaligarh to Jorhat section of NH-37 in Assam.
All work on the Numaligarh and Jorhat sections, including the installation of safety signages, has been completed, and traffic is plying safely through the newly constructed four-lane highway. Around 17.16 Lacs Cum of Earthwork in filling, DBM 0.64 Lacs Cum (linear length 39.28 Km Subgrade/ SGB, 38.956 km WMM/ DBM, 39.396 km BC & 0.34 km PQC) were completed without any accident with utmost safety to the working team and public. It involves widening/strengthening/raising the existing road from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, construction of service road of 13.10 km length at selected urban area along the project stretches and construction of structures such as one major bridge, ten minor bridges, 77 culverts, one underpass (VUP, which includes casting of RE panel 8,232.00 sqm), one toll plaza, 24 Bus Bays with Bus shelters, one major junction, 97 minor junctions and maintenance of the Project for the Defective Liability period of four years w.e.f. 15th March 2024 the date of Project Completion recommended by the Authority’s Engineer.
The project team mobilized over 160 Dumpers, 12 Excavators, and other necessary resources at the site during peak periods for round-the-clock work in 2 shifts. Despite challenges such as selecting quarries, sourcing materials, finalizing testing specifications, and addressing hindrances like land acquisition and compensation to landowners, the project team successfully managed the project through continuous communication and coordination with clients and district administrations in Jorhat and Golaghat districts.
The trial operation of the Toll Plaza operations at Rangamati was completed in the first attempt. The toll plaza work involved the installation of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and Toll Management System (TMS), as well as safety signages, sign boards, high mast lighting, and other necessary components. The representatives of the Authority and the Authority’s Engineer witnessed and verified this accomplishment on 29 August 2023.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MORT&H) has initiated a mega road development programme in the North East called “Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North East (SARDP-NE)”. The scope of the programme has been enlarged from time to time since September 2005. NJRP comes under SARDP-NE Phase A of the programme, which has been awarded to HCC by the Ministry (MoRT&H) and subsequently transferred to National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for further Execution. Hon’ble Transport Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari laid the Foundation stone for the project on 1 May 2015 in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Shri Tarun Gogoi and other dignitaries.
