Sept 2016 :
HCC’s Teesta low dam IV HEP project in West Bengal has been awarded the Runner-up trophy under the category ‘Water Project of the Year’, at the prestigious Construction Week India Awards 2016. The organising committee of the Awards along with its Jury and Knowledge partners have chosen the winners from hundreds of nominations in this category.
This 160 MW project built by HCC for the NHPC is built on the Roller Compact Concrete (RCC) technique and is only the third of its kind in India. The total length of this dam is 521m of which about 200m section is built by RCC technique with a cross sectional geometry having steps on both the upstream and downstream side. This technique of construction is used to reduce construction time by more than half. It is also a very economic technique of construction as compared to the conventional Concrete Gravity Dam.
At a grand function held in Mumbai on September 21, 2016, Mr S D Jeur –Construction Head, HCC E&C, received the award on HCC’s behalf. With this HCC has been successful in winning the Construction Week Award for four consecutive years.
