HCC wins Civic Award for Social Development from Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry
At a ceremony held in Mumbai on June 06, 2013, Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) Limited was accorded with the prestigious 'Civic Award for Social Development 2012-13' from the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry. HCC was presented with the Bombay Chamber's Civic Award for its continued efforts to serve the well-being of the community - both in the immediate vicinity of its work operations as well as beyond. This recognition for HCC comes close on the heels of the award for Best Social Investment Strategy bestowed by the World CSR Congress as well as the recognition accorded to it at the United Nations Rio+20 conferences in Brazil.

Speaking on the occasion, Arun Karambelkar, President & Whole Time Director, HCC observed that, "The Bombay Chamber's Civic Award serves to reaffirm HCC's long-standing commitment to 'Responsible Infrastructure' wherein environmental responsibility and social commitment are integral components of its business goals. Despite an extremely challenging economic environment for the infrastructure sector, HCC has continued to diligently implement and practice measures towards social responsibility across its over 50 project locations."

Earlier, HCC was accorded the distinction of being the only Indian company to be featured amongst ten global company case studies in a Climate Report titled 'Business and Climate Change Adaptation: Toward Resilient Companies and Communities' issued by the United Nations' Global Compact at the Rio+20 conferences in Brazil in June 2012. The HCC case study highlights its efforts towards water neutrality and showcases its initiatives at its Vishakapatnam and Badarpur projects. More recently, HCC was also awarded for 'Best Social Investment Strategy' by the World CSR Congress in Mumbai on February 18, 2013. HCC's Sustainability Reporting for 2010, 2011 and 2012 have been consecutively categorized by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) with Application Level Check A+.

The Civic Awards are presented by the BCCI to publicly acknowledge and honor notable achievements undertaken by corporate organizations to improve their environmental, social and cultural metrics by way of services to the community in addition to outstanding operational performance. Previous awardees in this category include TATA Chemicals, L&T, Mahindra & Mahindra among others.
